Introduction to Sound Arts
Sound Arts Now! Definitions, Literature, Keywords
Three keywords related to Sound Arts that are important
to your practice/aspirations:
Storytelling – When creating a composition or soundscape, it is important to my practice to aid in the story telling of the visual’s intended narrative. I enjoying arranging and composing sounds (i.e melodies, harmonics, rhythms) that tell a story. This story can vary from a sweet and tender folk tale to a dark and mysterious saga. I am also passionate about the telling of untold stories and aiding the wave of decolonial thinking in order to build new boundaries for women artists and Afrikan stories.
Experimentation – I believe when about to create a new piece of compositional work there has to be an element of play to start. I like to exercise the art of not taking myself too seriously and not being afraid to create bad ideas, realising the fact that someone else may enjoy what i originally may have thought was trash. I believe it is important when creating a composition to give yourself the time to experiment.
Atmosphere – It is important to me, to set an atmosphere when creating a soundscape of work or audio-visual composition. I aim to set an unbreakable mood and tone, this means I like to captivate a certain vibration so when entering or opening up this world, it feels different to any place you have felt before. This aligns also with authenticity as composer, I feel I like to consider myself an artist who has a style that can be recognise when experiencing it.
