Fashion films Research #2: Independent Womenswear Fashion Campaigns

My passion is to contribute to the sharing of stories embracing femininity and uniqueness which led me to start researching in fashion campaigns with a female lead.

This is a visual titled ‘Up and Out’ and is style focus film where the model goes through a series of outfits contained in a fashion short.

The music is London based indie-pop band, The Scanners which heightens the atmosphere and theme being, city fashion. I feel as a composer, I am passionate about city fashion as well as city life in general so this would be interesting write music for this project or a project similar.

In addition, I checked out this NY fashion film directed by Glen Luchford and after viewing I felt that there is seemingly a gap of POC protagonists in fashion films on the platform NOWNESS. This inspired me to expand my research to asking my creative circle if they knew of any fashion films/campaigns with a POC lead.

A friend recommended me this fashion short by Xavier Scott Marshall, ‘I Gotta Find Peace of Mind / White Noise’ , a short-form film reflecting on meditation, prayer, and healing amongst the black diaspora. I found this to be a beautiful piece a also quite unique for the fashion industry as it discusses spirtuality quite forwardly. In this piece the sound is composed by @_cymk and it’s style is very ambient and with also a never-ending nature. I feel that even though this film and I align in beliefs, my style of composition is a bit more upbeat.

Autoerotic directed by Can Evgin is high fashion short of starring 1 python, 1 ballet dancer and femme fatale beat. I was looking for a video that contrasted the video styles that I had seen before, which i believe were all very light-hearted and this video has more of a darker energy which would also be interesting for me to explore as an artist. This music is track called ‘Dialogue D’amoureux’, created by artist and DJ, Pandora’s Jukebox and has a dark villainess feel throughout the track and I was thinking that this sound would also be interesting to explore.
