Girl 6 – Directed by Spike Lee
I watched this very inspiring film directed by Spike Lee titled, Girl 6, its story shows the life of an upcoming actress living in New York who then takes a job at a call-center specialising in phone sex to support herself. Features a score of songs by Prince.

I found this audio-visual piece to be particularly inspiring as the well known music artist Prince scored this film by writing and recording music to heighten the emotional moments in the film. This was particularly inspiring as I have recently come to be confident with the fact that my first career passion is to be a singer-songwriter and viewing this film has led to my final idea of writing a song for my selected visual.
Prince writes and records soul music with his band which is used to show the current time the movie is set in, i.e. the 90’s and also to dramatise the parts in the movie which are sad and also triumphant pushing the audience to connect with the characters on a deeper level.
I feel that I too would interested in scoring and approaching a film this way as this stays true to my artist practise and vision for life. I feel that this approach to scoring is quite unique and suits a particular type of film but I feel this would be very interesting to create a modern version of this for today’s cinema.
