Video Research #1
When receiving the Specialising and Exhibiting brief, I had a strong realisation that I would like to curate an audio-visual project for Sound for Screen as I have an interest in creating music for screen, specifically, I also knew that I would like my art of sound to emphasise the films that were sharing of unique and alternative stories.
I began my video research by watching films on Nowness and was firstly drawn to a conceptual movement piece based on an ancient Greek myth of soulmates being merged into one, following it’s titled ‘One, Another’, it features two dancers exploring closeness through movement improvisation.
The featured music is composed by Jacob ‘NTHNL’ Rudin and has an openness in its feeling which may have influenced the slow and contemporary dance movements from the dancers. Its lead instrument is an electronic guitar like sound and later in the piece is the emergence of a warm indigenous woodwind instrument, which strongly aligns with the initial brief of this visual: sharing an ancient story of love, I found all these elements to be very moving.
